Update 12/28

I came to Salt Lake late last night from St. George and I spent time with Jessica this morning. While I was there, she played with "Grandma's itouch", painted a picture and put together a Toy Story puzzle. Her lungs are not improving as much as they had hoped so she continues to stay in the PICU. Jessica is anxious to return back to the 4th floor where she will be able to eat. All patients in the PICU can only be fed through a feeding tube. Although she is getting plenty of nutrients, she feels hungry and wants to eat real food. Chandra told me about a coversation she had with Jessica last night as they were both going to sleep. Wanting to know what she would be able to eat, she asked her mom, "Do they have cheese quesadillas with ranch here? What about noodles?" As Chandra and Jessica were both almost asleep, Jessica said, "What about bananas?" She then said, "Okay mom, you can go to sleep now."

Chandra, Cody and baby Jacob continue to stay at the hospital around the clock. Jacob is not allowed in the PICU so they take turns staying with Jessica while the other stays with Jacob in the waiting room. Alyson and Caleb continue to stay with Grandma Chipman at my sister Amelia's house in Farmington where they are enjoying their time with cousins. Their oldest daughter, Annalise, is staying with her Grandma and Grandpa Schmitt in Idaho where she is having a great time. Chandra and Cody are being so strong at this difficult time and are so grateful to all of the well wishes coming from people they know and from complete strangers.

  7. I am thinking and praying for you guys. My little guy Skyler has Leukemia and is on the 4th floor in room 15. If you ever need someone to talk to Im here for you. Also we were down in the PICU for three months so if you want a little of the good nurses I would be more than willing to come give it to you. Having a good nurse can make your day sooo much better.

  8. I am joining the others in sending up prayers for Jessica and for y'alls entire family. I truly believe that faith and prayers are our armour and where one can slay 10...a thousand can slay 10,000. I also believe in miracles. My g'daughter was delivered at 23 weeks weighing 15 oz. She was in NICU for six months, but now at almost two...she is a miracle baby. Sending up prayers for strength and healing.

  9. I will certainly be praying for Jessica. I know Primary Children's will take good care of her- after being both a patient and now a volunteer I appreciate how much they do for me and many other patients! I am a Kid's Crew Volunteer and I saw her Christmas day. I remember she asked for "purple paint and three other colors". I love how children just ask for the most simple things. I'm sorry to hear that she has been moved to the PICU, but I pray that she will get well enough to be able to be moved back up to the ICS. I'm sure I'll see your family around whether it be in the playroom or elsewhere. I wish you all the best!
